We had our Appointment with the US Embassy this afternoon. It was not a very fruitful trip, but then again we did not expect it to be. Because our court date was moved back from Tuesday to tomorrow morning we did not have the court order, which is necessary to file the paperwork at the Embassy. So we have now scheduled a new appointment for Monday.
Also, today was Manny’s Birthday. He turned seven. He said it was the first time he had ever had cake with a birthday candle. I think the whole “light the candle and blow it out thing” confused him! We gave him a “Transformer” toy – the Ghanaian version. It was a bit disappointing. However, we were able to celebrate with the other five children who are staying here at the hotel and going through the adoption process! Overall, it was a very nice birthday.
Please pray with us for our court date tomorrow morning. Pray that we will be seen quickly, our adoption will be approved, and that we will receive our court order by Monday. If so, we will be able to file our Embassy paperwork. If not, things could be extended longer than originally planned.
There doesn’t seem to be much consistency in the Ghanaian adoption process. Sometimes adoptions are granted quickly, other times the court will track down the biological family for interviews. Sometimes the US Embassy conducts investigations that include DNA testing that can take several weeks. Other times Visas are granted in a week.I pray that it is God’s desire for us to have a speedy process!
Oh one more thing – hamburger translates into goat burger. Shockingly, ‘goatburgers’ are gross!
